About the role

BetaShares is seeking a Senior Product Development Manager to help translate its superannuation strategy into member propositions, experiences and initiatives. The position is focused on developing products and experiences that support member outcomes while contributing to acquisition, engagement, retention and contribution behaviour.

The role reports to the Head of Superannuation and operates as a senior individual contributor position. The successful candidate will act as the principal Super business owner for member-facing product development. This means taking ownership of significant product priorities and working across multiple teams to move initiatives from early discovery and business-case development through design, delivery, launch and optimisation.

The role combines product management, customer experience, commercial analysis, digital development and financial-services knowledge. Because the position operates within a regulated superannuation environment, the candidate will also need to incorporate regulatory, trustee, operational, risk and compliance considerations into product decisions.

Product Strategy and Roadmap

A major responsibility will be translating the BetaShares Super strategy into a clear and prioritised roadmap covering propositions, member experiences, product development and growth initiatives.

The Senior Product Manager will establish clear objectives and measures of success for product initiatives. This includes understanding the problems that members face, assessing opportunities, determining priorities and ensuring that development activity is connected to broader business and member outcomes.

The role will require the candidate to balance customer needs, commercial considerations, operational requirements and regulatory obligations when deciding which initiatives should be progressed.

The position will also involve identifying potential new propositions and capabilities. This work may draw on member research, behavioural information, service insights, complaints, market analysis and commercial evidence. The candidate will be expected to convert these sources of information into actionable product opportunities and recommendations.

Member Experience Ownership

The Senior Product Manager will own the member experience roadmap across multiple stages of the superannuation lifecycle.

This includes acquisition, onboarding, engagement, servicing, retention, contributions and retirement. The objective is to ensure that individual initiatives contribute to a coherent member experience rather than operating as disconnected product changes.

The role will therefore require a strong understanding of customer journeys and member needs. The candidate will need to identify opportunities to improve digital experiences, reduce friction and create clearer and more useful interactions for members.

Digital Product Development

The successful candidate will act as the senior Super business owner for member-facing digital development.

This includes defining and prioritising problems, establishing requirements and setting measurable outcomes across web, application and digital servicing channels.

The candidate will work closely with Product, Design and Technology teams to lead initiatives through discovery, design, development, testing, business acceptance, launch and post-launch optimisation.

Rather than focusing solely on project delivery, the role requires ongoing attention to whether launched products and capabilities are achieving their intended outcomes. Performance data, behavioural information and member feedback can therefore be used to identify opportunities for further improvement.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

The position requires extensive collaboration across the organisation. The Senior Product Manager will work with Super, Product, Design, Technology, Marketing, Data, Operations, Finance, Legal, Risk and Compliance teams.

A key part of the position is establishing clear objectives, responsibilities, dependencies, decision rights and escalation processes for major initiatives.

The candidate will need to influence senior stakeholders and shared teams without relying on direct reporting authority. This makes communication, stakeholder management and structured decision-making important parts of the role.

The position also involves representing Super product-development priorities in planning and governance forums and ensuring that product initiatives remain aligned with broader business objectives.

Commercial and Business Analysis

The Senior Product Manager will develop business cases and commercial assessments for significant propositions and product enhancements.

This includes assessing the potential value of new initiatives, considering member outcomes and evaluating commercial implications. Following implementation, the candidate will assess actual performance against agreed objectives.

Relevant measures can include member outcomes, acquisition, engagement, retention and contribution behaviour.

The role therefore combines strategic product thinking with quantitative and commercial analysis. Candidates should be comfortable using evidence to prioritise opportunities and making recommendations based on customer, market and business information.

Regulatory and Governance Responsibilities

Superannuation is a regulated financial-services environment, so regulatory and governance considerations are an important component of the role.

The Senior Product Manager will ensure that Super-specific regulatory, trustee, operational and member requirements are incorporated early in the product-development process.

Material changes will require appropriate approvals, implementation controls and documented decisions. The position may also interact with Legal, Risk and Compliance stakeholders to ensure that product initiatives meet relevant requirements.

The job description identifies working knowledge of APRA and ASIC requirements relevant to superannuation product development and member outcomes as a desirable qualification.

Product Discovery and Optimisation

The role places strong emphasis on discovery and evidence-based product development.

The candidate will investigate customer and member problems, analyse behavioural and service information, consider market opportunities and develop recommendations before significant development work begins.

Following launch, the candidate will monitor performance and use relevant data and member insights to identify optimisation opportunities. Experience with experimentation, behavioural data and member insights is listed as a desirable capability.

This creates an end-to-end product-management responsibility covering problem identification, research, prioritisation, business-case development, design, delivery, launch and optimisation.

Stakeholder Leadership

As a senior individual contributor, the successful candidate will be expected to provide product leadership without necessarily managing a large direct-reporting team.

The position requires the ability to bring together specialists from different business areas, establish common objectives and maintain momentum through complex initiatives.

Strong written and verbal communication will be required to explain product priorities, member needs, strategic considerations, commercial analysis and regulatory requirements to different audiences.

The candidate will also need sound commercial judgement and the ability to turn complex information into clear decisions and practical delivery priorities.

Overall Opportunity

This role provides an opportunity for an experienced financial-services product professional to work directly on superannuation products and member-facing experiences at BetaShares.

The position combines strategy, product discovery, digital development, customer experience, commercial analysis and regulated financial-services delivery. It is particularly focused on the Australian superannuation market and requires the ability to connect member needs with business and regulatory requirements.

The advertised role is based in Sydney and is listed as permanent, full-time, on-site and senior.

Requirements & Qualifications

Candidates should have at least 7 years of experience across product management, product development, strategy or digital product roles within financial services. The advertised position specifically seeks meaningful experience in Australian superannuation, wealth management or investment platforms.

A strong understanding of the Australian superannuation market is required, including the member lifecycle and the regulatory environment affecting member-facing product development.

Applicants should have demonstrated experience taking complex customer or member-facing initiatives from problem definition and discovery through implementation, launch and measurable optimisation. Experience should include product discovery, customer experience analysis, data-led prioritisation and commercial business-case development.

The role also requires demonstrated experience leading complex cross-functional initiatives. Candidates must be able to influence senior stakeholders and coordinate teams without depending on direct reporting authority.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are important. The successful candidate should be capable of translating strategy, member needs, commercial considerations and regulatory requirements into clear recommendations and delivery priorities.

Desirable experience includes digital superannuation, wealth or investment-platform development, along with experience combining traditional financial-services knowledge with contemporary digital product-management practices.

Working knowledge of APRA and ASIC requirements relevant to superannuation product development and member outcomes is also desirable. Experience using experimentation, behavioural data and member insights to improve engagement is advantageous.

Experience launching a new proposition or significant digital capability in a regulated environment would be useful. Relevant tertiary education and/or superannuation industry qualifications are also listed among the desirable attributes.
