Infrastructure Engineer
About the role
INDEPENDENT GAMING CORP is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to support and maintain its on-premises, cloud and network infrastructure across a multi-site operational environment. This is a hands-on engineering position intended for an experienced technology professional who can take ownership of infrastructure decisions, investigate complex technical issues and deliver reliable solutions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for administering and maintaining server, virtualisation, storage and backup infrastructure. This includes ensuring that core systems remain reliable, available and properly maintained. The position requires practical experience working with Windows Server environments and on-premises infrastructure, together with an understanding of modern cloud and enterprise technology environments.
A major component of the position involves managing network infrastructure and security appliances across multiple remote sites. The Infrastructure Engineer will help maintain connectivity and network reliability while supporting firewall and WAN environments. The role requires the ability to troubleshoot infrastructure incidents methodically and identify the underlying cause rather than simply resolving individual symptoms.
The engineer will also administer Microsoft 365 and on-premises Active Directory environments. Responsibilities include supporting Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Entra ID, while maintaining the organisation's broader identity and access infrastructure.
The position is not designed as a traditional helpdesk role. Instead, the successful candidate will work at an infrastructure engineering level, taking ownership of technical problems and progressing issues independently before escalating where appropriate. The role requires strong analytical thinking, practical troubleshooting ability and confidence working with systems that support critical operations.
Infrastructure, Security and Project Delivery
The Infrastructure Engineer will respond to infrastructure incidents and work towards root-cause resolution. The role includes contributing to patching activities, change management and technical documentation. Accurate documentation and controlled implementation of infrastructure changes are important because the organisation operates within a regulated environment.
Cybersecurity is another important element of the position. The successful candidate will support cybersecurity controls and respond to audit and compliance requirements. This means the engineer must understand the importance of secure infrastructure, appropriate access controls, system maintenance and documented changes.
The position also involves working alongside the Manager Systems and external vendors to support technology projects. The successful applicant may therefore participate in infrastructure transformation, platform modernisation and project delivery activities. The organisation is currently undertaking infrastructure transformation, making this an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working across established and modern technology environments.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a small technology team where individual contribution is visible. Rather than waiting for instructions, the organisation is looking for someone who takes ownership, communicates clearly and can independently work through technical problems.
Ideal Candidate and Working Environment
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Windows Server and Active Directory, together with practical knowledge of virtualisation platforms, backup and recovery systems, network firewalls and WAN administration. Experience administering Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Teams and Entra ID, is also required.
Additional experience with PowerShell, Python or similar scripting technologies would be advantageous. Familiarity with ITIL frameworks or formal change-management processes would also be useful, particularly for candidates who have worked in regulated or compliance-heavy environments.
The organisation describes itself as small and stable, with a technically interesting environment where employees receive meaningful responsibility. Because the infrastructure supports critical operational systems, reliability, careful troubleshooting and attention to detail are particularly important.
Applicants are expected to provide a current resume and a brief cover letter explaining their relevant experience.
Requirements & Qualifications
The successful candidate should have at least 3 years of practical experience administering and maintaining server, virtualisation, storage and backup infrastructure. At least 3 years of experience managing network infrastructure and security appliances across a multi-site environment is expected. The role also calls for at least 3 years of experience administering Microsoft 365 services such as Exchange Online, Teams and Entra ID, together with on-premises Active Directory.
Candidates should have solid hands-on Windows Server and Active Directory experience, knowledge of virtualisation platforms, backup and recovery experience, and practical experience with network firewalls and WAN environments. Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to investigate root causes are essential. Applicants should also be comfortable following documentation, change-management and compliance procedures in a regulated environment.
PowerShell, Python or similar scripting experience is desirable. ITIL knowledge, formal change-management experience and previous experience in a regulated industry would also be beneficial.
