About the role

Robert Half Australia is advertising technology opportunities in Sydney, including a Business Systems Analyst position with a financial services organisation. This role is suited to an analytical and technically minded professional who can connect business requirements with effective technology solutions. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, product owners, internal technology teams and external vendors to improve business systems, streamline processes and support the delivery of technology initiatives.

The Business Systems Analyst will contribute throughout the system development and implementation lifecycle, from gathering requirements and analysing existing processes to coordinating testing, supporting implementation and reviewing outcomes. The role requires someone who can understand business challenges, investigate system behaviour and translate complex requirements into clear, practical specifications for technical teams.

Working within a financial services environment, the analyst may support improvements to core business applications, operational workflows, system integrations and reporting capabilities. The position offers opportunities to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to technology projects that improve efficiency, reliability and the overall user experience.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will engage with stakeholders across business and technology functions to understand operational needs, identify system limitations and document requirements for enhancements or new capabilities. They will facilitate discussions, conduct requirements-gathering sessions and translate business objectives into functional specifications, process maps, user stories and acceptance criteria.

A key responsibility will be to analyse existing business processes and identify opportunities to improve workflows, reduce manual tasks and strengthen system performance. The analyst will investigate how applications exchange information, assess integration requirements and work with technical specialists to clarify dependencies between platforms, services and data flows.

The role will also involve collaborating with developers, solution architects, product owners and external technology vendors to ensure that proposed solutions meet agreed business requirements. The analyst will help assess proposed changes, clarify technical and functional expectations, document decisions and support delivery teams throughout implementation.

Testing and quality assurance will form an important part of the position. Responsibilities may include preparing test scenarios, coordinating user acceptance testing, documenting defects, validating system changes and working with relevant teams to resolve issues before release. The analyst will help ensure that enhancements are properly evaluated and that business users understand changes affecting their daily operations.

Additional duties may include supporting system upgrades, application implementations, integration improvements and broader technology transformation initiatives. The successful candidate will maintain clear documentation covering requirements, workflows, system behaviour, configuration decisions and operational procedures. They will also help investigate production issues, coordinate vendor support and identify opportunities for automation or continuous improvement.

Throughout each project, the Business Systems Analyst will monitor requirements, dependencies and outstanding issues, helping ensure that delivered solutions remain aligned with business objectives. They will communicate progress and risks clearly, facilitate decisions when requirements conflict and help maintain productive working relationships between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Candidate Profile and Working Environment

The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical skills with practical experience in business systems analysis, requirements management and technology delivery. They should be comfortable working with stakeholders who have different priorities and levels of technical knowledge, and capable of turning ambiguous business problems into structured, actionable requirements.

Experience in financial services, banking, lending, insurance or another regulated industry would be beneficial because these environments often require careful management of data, system access, operational controls and documentation. Familiarity with APIs, integrations, application workflows and the software development lifecycle will help the candidate contribute effectively to technical discussions and system improvement projects.

The successful applicant should demonstrate initiative, attention to detail and a structured approach to solving problems. They will need to manage competing priorities, follow through on outstanding actions and communicate findings in a clear and professional manner. The ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external vendors is essential to ensuring that requirements are understood and solutions are delivered effectively.

This opportunity is relevant to professionals looking to develop their careers in business analysis, systems improvement, technology project delivery or product-focused technology teams. Candidates should confirm the specific employer, salary, office attendance expectations and employment conditions with the recruiter before applying.
