About
Tastes of Southern Australia is an 11-day guided journey designed to showcase the diverse landscapes, cultures, wildlife, food and heritage of southeastern Australia. Operated by Trafalgar, the tour travels from Sydney to Adelaide, connecting nine cities and destinations while combining guided sightseeing, scenic drives, cultural experiences and free time. Trafalgar
The journey begins in Sydney before travelling to Canberra, Australia's capital. Guests visit the grounds of Parliament House and enjoy a hosted experience at Gold Creek Station featuring a sheep-shearing demonstration and barbecue lunch. The next stage continues through Wangaratta and Beechworth, where travellers experience historic gold-rush heritage, scenic views from Mount Ainslie and traditional regional hospitality.
The itinerary then reaches Melbourne, where city sightseeing is combined with a guided visit to the Koorie Heritage Trust Gallery and a walk beside the Yarra River, with an introduction to the history and culture of the Kulin Nation. Travellers also have free time to explore Melbourne and can choose from optional experiences including Eureka Skydeck, Phillip Island, Puffing Billy and Melbourne's famous lanes and arcades.
One of the major highlights follows with a scenic journey along the Great Ocean Road. The itinerary includes stops at Apollo Bay, the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and London Bridge, providing opportunities to experience some of Victoria's most recognisable coastal scenery.
The tour then crosses into South Australia, visiting Budj Bim Cultural Landscape, Tae Rak (Lake Condah), Mount Gambier's Blue Lake, the Coonawarra wine region and Alexandra Cave. These experiences combine Aboriginal cultural heritage, geological landscapes, wine-country scenery and regional attractions.
The journey continues towards Kangaroo Island, travelling through the Murray River and Fleurieu Peninsula before crossing by ferry. Kangaroo Island provides some of the tour's strongest wildlife and nature experiences. Guests visit Seal Bay Conservation Park, where they learn about sea-lion conservation, and explore Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch, including opportunities to see fur seals. A boutique brewery tasting is also included.
The final section travels back towards Adelaide, with visits including a vertical woollen mill, Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Oil Distillery and Cape Willoughby. Travellers also experience Adelaide city and the historic German-influenced village of Hahndorf.
The tour is fully guided in English and includes an experienced Travel Director and professional driver. Accommodation is provided throughout the journey, with hotels including Crowne Plaza properties, Quality Wangaratta, Lady Bay Resort, William MacIntosh Motor Lodge and Aurora Ozone, subject to change.
The package includes accommodation, transportation, selected meals, sightseeing and guided experiences. Trafalgar's current Australian page states that the tour includes 10 nights' accommodation, 10 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 4 dinners, as well as an expert Travel Director, professional driver, hotel porterage where available and land transportation shown in the itinerary.
