Operated by Autopia Tours, this medium-intensity group journey combines wildlife spotting, guided rainforest walks, and stunning geological formations into an action-packed itinerary.
Adelaide to Grampians National Park Your journey begins early in the morning from Adelaide (departing outside the YHA Adelaide Central at 135 Waymouth Street). Heading eastward into regional South Australia and Victoria, you will make your way towards the dramatic peaks of the Grampians National Park (Gariwerd). Day one is filled with incredible outdoor highlights, starting with a scenic stop at Boroka Lookout, which offers sweeping panoramic views over the surrounding valleys and plains. Next, visit The Balconies (also known as Reed's Lookout), where you can gaze out over the striking rock formations resembling giant jaws opening up to the horizon. Afterward, embark on an invigorating hike down to the base of Mackenzie Falls, one of the Grampians' largest and most majestic waterfalls flowing year-round. Depending on seasonal timing and road conditions, the tour may also stop briefly at the vibrant Pink Lake in Dimboola. As evening falls, enjoy a group dinner before checking into your accommodation in Halls Gap, choosing between private ensuite motel rooms at the Gariwerd Motel or shared dormitory options at the Grampians Eco YHA.
Grampians to the Great Ocean Road & Warrnambool Wake up surrounded by native wildlifeβkeep your eyes peeled for wild kangaroos, emus, and colourful kookaburras right around your accommodation. Begin your second day with a hike up to the Pinnacle Lookout, rewarding your early morning energy with breathtaking views across the jagged sandstone ridges of the Grampians. Leaving the mountains behind, the tour travels south towards the coast, stopping at the Tower Hill Conservation Reserve. Set inside a dormant volcanic crater, Tower Hill is an incredible sanctuary where you can spot koalas lounging in the eucalyptus trees, emus roaming freely, and native birdlife in a protected wetland habitat. In the evening, the group gathers for dinner at a local hotspot and microbrewery in Warrnambool, where you will stay overnight at the Mid City Motel.
The Great Ocean Road to Melbourne The final day focuses entirely on Australia's most famous coastal drive: the Great Ocean Road. Enjoy breakfast with scenic beach views before traveling along the dramatic southern coastline. Stop to admire the historical Memorial Arch before exploring world-renowned geological marvels. Stand in awe before the majestic 12 Apostles, the towering limestone stacks rising dramatically out of the Southern Ocean. Explore the rich history and hidden staircases of Loch Ard Gorge, the site of a famous 19th-century shipwreck, and walk across to view London Bridge. Take a peaceful, guided rainforest walk through the cool-temperate canopies of the Great Otway National Park, surrounded by ancient moss-covered trees and giant ferns. For those looking for an extra thrill, weather permitting, an optional helicopter scenic flight over the 12 Apostles is available for an additional cost. After stopping for lunch in the charming coastal town of Apollo Bay, the journey winds past picturesque seaside towns before concluding in Melbourne city centre at the Immigration Museum on Flinders Street at approximately 5:30 PM.
