About This Event

Norton Street Italian Festa returns to Leichhardt in Sydney on Sunday 25 October 2026, marking the event's 40th anniversary. The annual celebration brings Italian food, music, entertainment, community activities, cultural experiences and family attractions to Norton Street in the heart of Leichhardt. The official event schedule lists the Festa from 10:00 to 17:00, with free entry for visitors.

A Celebration of Italian Culture

The Norton Street Italian Festa has a long connection with Sydney's Italian Australian community. The first Festa was organised in 1986 by Capuchin priests at St Fiacres Church in Leichhardt, inspired by traditional religious festivals in Italy. Over the decades, it has developed into a major community street festival celebrating Italian heritage and the cultural character of Leichhardt.

The 2026 edition is particularly significant because it marks four decades of the Festa. The celebration will take place along approximately 800 metres of Norton Street, between Marion Street and William Street, with activities also extending into Pioneers Memorial Park.

Italian Food and Street Dining

Food is one of the central attractions of Norton Street Italian Festa. Visitors can experience a broad selection of Italian dishes and products from local restaurants, food vendors and specialist businesses. The 2026 event is expected to feature more than 170 stalls offering food, drinks, handmade products, apparel, accessories, books and other goods.

Food options reported for the 2026 Festa include pizza, gnocchi, pasta, panzerotti, cannoli, gelato, porchetta paninis and grilled octopus. Italian wine and spirit tastings, along with Italian inspired soft drinks, will also form part of the culinary experience.

Live Music and Entertainment

The 2026 anniversary program places an increased emphasis on music and live entertainment. Planned performances include an Italian music DJ, a dedicated music stage and appearances by a range of performers. The NSW Police Band is scheduled to perform Italian themed songs, while opera singer Matthew Reardon and recording artist Phillip Johnston and his trio are also listed among the planned entertainment.

The CoAsIt main stage near Leichhardt Town Hall will also contribute to the day's entertainment program. Additional performers include Sydney based Italian jazz duo Majazzter and vocalist David Pacini, who is scheduled to travel from Italy for the festival.

Family Friendly Activities

Norton Street Italian Festa is designed as a family friendly community event with activities for different age groups. Pioneers Memorial Park will feature amusement attractions including tea cups, inflatable slides and swinging chairs. Children can also find activities such as face painting, caricature drawing, hair braiding and miniature manicure services.

The festival also provides opportunities for families to explore Italian culture through food, entertainment, community stalls and street activities. The official Festa describes the event as a community celebration suitable for visitors of different ages and backgrounds.

AutoFesta and Italian Motoring

Car enthusiasts can also experience AutoFesta, a classic Italian vehicle display taking place at Pioneers Memorial Park. The 2026 program is expected to feature Italian cars and motorcycles from marques and brands associated with Italian motoring culture, including Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Ducati and Vespa.

Location and Transport

The event is held on Norton Street in Leichhardt, Sydney, between Marion Street and William Street. Transport for NSW advises visitors to use public transport because significant road closures and traffic restrictions will operate around the festival.

The closest light rail options include Marion and Leichhardt North, both within walking distance of the event area. Petersham is also a nearby transport option, although planned trackwork on the day may affect Inner West train services.

Visitors driving should allow additional travel time because Norton Street and surrounding roads will be subject to event closures and clearway restrictions. Transport for NSW lists road closures from the early morning through the evening around the Festa precinct.

40th Anniversary Edition

The 2026 Norton Street Italian Festa provides an opportunity to experience a long-running Sydney cultural event while celebrating its 40-year history. With Italian cuisine, live music, entertainment, family activities, classic vehicles, community stalls and cultural programming, the Festa brings together residents, businesses and visitors in Leichhardt's Italian cultural precinct.

The event is scheduled for Sunday 25 October 2026 from 10:00 to 17:00 and entry is free. Visitors should check the official Festa website and Transport for NSW closer to the event for final program information and travel updates.
