Melbourne Fashion Week
Wear The Moment
About This Event
Melbourne Fashion Week returns to Melbourne from 19 to 25 October 2026, bringing together fashion, design, creativity, culture and the city's diverse creative community for a seven day celebration. The official 2026 program includes city wide runways, exhibitions, industry conversations, workshops and other fashion focused experiences across Melbourne.
Known as M/FW, Melbourne Fashion Week provides a platform for established designers, emerging creative talent, fashion labels, models, stylists, artists and audiences to experience contemporary Australian fashion in distinctive locations around the city. Rather than being confined to a single traditional fashion venue, the festival uses Melbourne itself as an important part of the experience, connecting fashion with architecture, public spaces, culture and the city's creative identity.
The 2026 program begins on Monday 19 October with the Opening Runway, ganbu marra, highlighting emerging and established First Nations talent. Across the week, visitors can experience a changing program that explores different perspectives within Melbourne's fashion community.
One of the festival's highlights is the Cult Status Runway at State Library Victoria on 21 October. The program brings together original designers and emerging labels, presenting expressive collections and exploring the relationship between fashion, individuality, experimentation and contemporary culture.
On 22 October, The Edit Runway at Younghusband in Kensington presents contemporary womenswear and creative interpretations of modern femininity. The runway features a range of Australian designers and labels, reflecting the evolving character of Melbourne and Narrm's fashion scene.
Melbourne Fashion Week also includes opportunities to engage with fashion beyond the runway. The program features talks, workshops and exhibitions covering areas such as design, production, sustainability, representation and the wider creative industries. The festival's Fashion Capsules program presents curated fashion exhibitions in locations around the city and runs from 28 September through 25 October 2026.
City Square Fashion Experiences
City Square is one of the prominent public locations featured during the 2026 festival. On 24 October, the City Square Runway 1: Street Style will showcase Melbourne's street style community in an outdoor presentation. The program includes labels and designers such as bΓΊl, Clothing The Gaps, ELK the Label, gammin threads, gorman, HoMie, Kuwaii, NTV Shop and Salomon.
The same location will host City Square Runway 2: After Hours later that day, extending the fashion experience into the evening. These public runway experiences demonstrate how Melbourne Fashion Week incorporates the city's streets and public spaces into its creative programming.
City Square will also feature the festival's Closing Runway: Wear The Moment on 25 October. The closing experience brings together designers, creatives and subcultures from across Melbourne, combining runway presentation with live performance and music. The official program describes the event as a celebration of the individuality and influence of Melbourne's diverse fashion community.
Fashion, Culture and Creativity
Melbourne Fashion Week is not limited to clothing presentations. Its broader program reflects the relationship between fashion, art, design, performance and culture. Visitors can encounter fashion through runway shows, exhibitions, conversations, public installations and creative experiences throughout the city.
The 2026 festival also places attention on Melbourne's diverse fashion community. Its programming provides opportunities to see established names alongside emerging designers and creative voices, giving audiences a broader view of contemporary fashion in Australia.
For visitors attending the festival, the citywide format means that individual events may take place at different venues and have different ticketing requirements, schedules and accessibility arrangements. Some experiences are free, while others require paid tickets. The City of Melbourne's official event listing states that Melbourne Fashion Week events range from free experiences to ticketed events.
City Square is particularly accessible as a central Melbourne location and provides a distinctive public setting for fashion presentations. The square reopened as part of Melbourne's renewed city centre after the Metro Tunnel works, and its location in the CBD places it within easy reach of other major cultural and retail destinations.
