Autumnal Soap Making Masterclass Penrith
Craft nourishing, warm-scented botanical soaps inspired by the rich colours and cozy aromas of autumn.
About This Event
Welcome to the Autumnal Soap Making Masterclass right here in Penrith, Australia! As the weather transitions into crisp autumn breezes and golden hues, our skin care needs change too. This immersive, hands-on workshop is designed to introduce you to the ancient and rewarding art of cold-process soap making. Whether you are a complete beginner looking to pick up a sustainable new hobby or an experienced crafter wanting to experiment with seasonal botanicals, this session offers everything you need to create luxury bars of soap from scratch.
Why Seasonal Soap Making Matters
As the seasons shift from the scorching Australian summer to the cooler autumn months, commercial soaps can often strip the skin of its natural moisture. Crafting your own soap allows you to take complete control of the ingredients. In this workshop, we focus on deeply hydrating, skin-loving plant oils and buttersβsuch as olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and castor oilβthat provide a rich, creamy lather while locking in essential moisture. By aligning our crafting ingredients with the seasons, we embrace a slower, more mindful approach to personal care.
What You Will Learn During the Workshop
Our expert instructor will guide you step-by-step through the entire soap-making lifecycle. You will learn:
-
The Science of Saponification: Understand how lye (sodium hydroxide) interacts safely with fats and oils to transform liquid ingredients into solid, nourishing soap.
-
Safety Protocols: Master essential handling rules when working with raw lye, protective equipment, and precise measurement techniques.
-
Formulation & Recipe Design: Learn how to use soap calculators to balance hardness, conditioning, bubbly lather, and creamy properties.
-
Natural Colourants & Exfoliants: Discover how to use earth clays, botanical powders, and organic autumn elements like ground cinnamon, coffee grounds, or calendula petals to decorate your bars.
Aromatherapy of Autumn: Fragrance Blending
One of the highlights of our Autumnal Soap Making class is mastering seasonal scent profiles. Moving away from light summer citruses, autumn calls for grounding, warm, and comforting aromas. You will work with pure therapeutic-grade essential oils to curate your own signature blend. Think rich cedarwood, soothing patchouli, spicy clove, sweet orange, and warm vanilla notes. Youβll learn how to anchor these essential oils so that your soaps retain their gorgeous fragrance long after the curing process is complete.
The Hands-On Experience
Get your hands dirtyβor rather, soapy! Under the watchful eye of our instructor, you will mix your very own batch of cold-process soap. You will pour your creation into custom-designed molds and learn the art of top-texturing to give your loaf a rustic, artisan finish. Each participant will leave the venue with their own custom-cut batch of soap (approximately 10 to 12 substantial bars) once cured, along with a detailed digital booklet containing recipes, safety guidelines, and supplier lists.
