Top Yard

Tucked away above the bustling streets of the Melbourne CBD, Top Yard represents everything that makes Melbourne’s legendary nightlife and laneway culture so magnetic. Perched atop 60 King Street with an exclusive entrance via Geddes Lane, Top Yard is a vibrant open-air sanctuary that trades ordinary four-wall drinking holes for sweeping 360-degree views of the city skyline. Part relaxed suburban backyard, part high-energy cocktail lounge, Top Yard invites locals, after-work crowds, and weekend socialites to step off the pavement, head skyward, and soak in the best urban atmosphere Melbourne has to offer.

What Makes Top Yard Special?

In a city celebrated globally for its hidden bars and rooftop gems, Top Yard carves out a distinct personality through a clever mix of playful nostalgia, premium hospitality, and unbeatable vantage points:

• The Ultimate "Aussie Backyard" Vibe: Stepping onto the turf-covered deck feels like entering a sun-drenched, colorful backyard party. Adorned with bright umbrellas and artistic touches nodding to homegrown culture, it offers a welcoming escape from corporate monotony.

• Sweeping 360-Degree Skyline Views: Positioned strategically in the West End of the CBD, the venue provides uninterrupted panoramic views of Melbourne’s striking architectural contrast—from historic brick facades to glittering modern skyscrapers—making it a premier golden-hour photography spot.

• An Electric Music & Social Calendar: Far more than just a quiet drinking spot, Top Yard pulses with life. Driven by state-of-the-art sound systems and curated DJ line-ups, the venue transitions seamlessly from a relaxed sunset lounge into a lively weekend dance destination.

Background and History: Elevating Melbourne's Rooftop Culture

Top Yard first opened its doors in late 2018, conceived by visionary local hospitality creators who wanted to challenge the traditional, stuffy nightclub model. The mission was straightforward: inject colour, humor, unpretentious fun, and open-air freedom into the heart of Melbourne's concrete jungle.

Tucked secretly away behind King Street, the venue quickly grew from an insider secret into one of the city's most beloved open-air institutions. Through changing seasons, Melbourne weather variations (mitigated by weather-proof structural setups), and shifting cultural trends, Top Yard has continually reinvented its event programming—hosting everything from vibrant house music sessions and themed holiday parties to relaxed Sunday afternoon gatherings. Its enduring success lies in its commitment to capturing the authentic, creative spirit of Melbourne.
