Founded on the principle that because every dog matters, Advance Behavioural Training (affectionately known as ABT+) has grown into Adelaide’s premier destination for comprehensive canine education, behavioural rehabilitation, and holistic pet care. Located in Athol Park, South Australia, our facility was created to bridge the communication gap between dogs and their human families.
We understand that sharing your life with a dog is one of the most rewarding experiences imaginable, but it can also come with unique hurdles. Studies indicate that a significant majority of dogs will experience some form of behavioural challenge during their lifetime. Whether you are welcoming an exuberant new puppy into your home, managing a rescue dog with deep-seated anxiety, or trying to curb frustrating habits like excessive barking, jumping, or leash reactivity, ABT+ provides a compassionate, structured, and judgment-free space to help you succeed.
Our Heritage and Background
Advance Behavioural Training was established in 2011 by Amy, a passionate animal advocate who began her professional career as a qualified veterinary nurse. Spending years in a clinical veterinary environment gave Amy a front-row seat to how untreated behavioural issues, stress, and miscommunication often lead to heartbreaking outcomes for pets. Driven by a fierce desire to prevent these scenarios, she transitioned her career fully into canine behaviour and training, founding ABT with a vision to build long-term, harmonious relationships between dogs and owners.
Over more than a decade of operation, ABT has expanded from a specialized training concept into a fully equipped, state-of-the-art facility in Adelaide's inner-northwest. Our physical space features custom-engineered environments—including indoor climate-controlled training arenas with insulated roofs and comfortable, rubber-paved flooring designed to protect canine joints. Backed by a dynamic, multidisciplinary team of certified trainers, behavioural specialists, groomers, and client support officers, ABT+ continues to evolve while staying true to its founding ethos: that no dog is ever beyond help.
Our Training Philosophy: Balanced and Positive
At the heart of Advance Behavioural Training is a commitment to a balanced, science-backed methodology. We utilize a balanced approach that anchors heavily in positive reinforcement while incorporating clear boundaries and structure.
-
Motivational Techniques: We believe training should be an enjoyable, high-engagement game for your dog. Our methods are designed to inspire dogs to want to work and cooperate with their owners willingly.
-
Tailored Solutions: Every dog is an individual with distinct genetic traits, personal history, and temperament. We reject cookie-cutter training templates, taking the time to understand your dog’s unique personality before designing an action plan.
-
Owner Empowerment: A well-trained dog requires an educated handler. We focus extensively on coaching owners, ensuring you leave our facility with the confidence, clarity, and mechanical skills needed to maintain long-term success at home.
Comprehensive Services Offered
We offer an extensive range of in-person and digital services designed to support your dog through every life stage, from playful puppyhood to senior care:
1. Puppy Training & Socialization Academy
Starting your puppy on the right foot is the single most effective way to prevent future behavioural hurdles. Our puppy school focuses on critical early socialisation, bite inhibition, confidence-building exercises, basic obedience foundations, and handling routines to vet visits stress-free.
2. Behavioural Modification & Private Consultations
For dogs struggling with complex issues such as severe separation anxiety, fear-based reactivity, resource guarding, or human/dog aggression, our specialized behaviourists step in with targeted intervention plans. We offer private one-on-one appointments (both on-site in Adelaide and via Zoom consultations for remote clients) to diagnose triggers and systematically rebuild your dog's emotional resilience.
3. Structured Doggie Daycare
Our doggy daycare is far more than just a babysitting service—it is an extension of our training environment. Operating out of our climate-controlled Athol Park facility, our daycare groups are carefully managed by trained professionals who monitor play styles, enforce good manners, and ensure every dog gets a healthy balance of social play and necessary rest. It's an ideal outlet for high-energy dogs or a fantastic way to prevent destructive boredom while you are at work.
